Herbert E. Raymond, 85, died Saturday, March 17, 2012 under the care of Hospice Savannah.

Mr. Raymond was born in Hardeeville, SC on September 21, 1926, the son of the late John Peter and May Louise McDonald Raymond. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served proudly during World War II. He was employed at Porter-Huggins, Inc. in Savannah for many years where he worked as a General Superintendent.

Mr. Raymond loved Jesus and loved his church, Bible Baptist. It gave him great joy passing out the church bulletins as people arrived at church and he always had a peppermint candy in his pocket for the children. He also loved to encourage people and to ask brain teasers to make you think. His hobbies included fishing and spending time in his garden.

Mr. Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, LaRue Raymond; daughter, June Ellen Raymond Pollock and by his great-granddaughter, Cynthia Nicole Bell. He leaves a son, Herrell T. Raymond of Savannah; daughters, Connie Wiles Charlie of O'ville, AL and Cyrena H. Raymond of Savannah; grandchildren, Cyrena, Cheryl, Steven, Ronald, Karen, Shelly and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Meghan, Alexandra, Joseph, Taylor, Cody, John Andrew, Starlene, Haley, Austin, Nicholas, Devon and Justin; great great-grandchildren, Jayden, Riley and Brandon; sisters, Louise Mears of Holly Hill, SC and Margaret Cox of Hardeeville, SC.

The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Bible Baptist Church with burial following at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
